A host of former United stars will head back to Old Trafford, which is 20 years to the day since the Red Devils’ dramatic Champions League triumph over Bayern in Barcelona.

Mario Basler’s sixth-minute free-kick looked set to end United’s hopes of adding the Champions League trophy to their domestic double of the Premier League and FA Cup.

However, United super-subs Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer struck a quickfire brace in injury time to complete one of the most sensational comebacks in European Cup history.

The likes of David Beckham, Peter Schmeichel, Gary Neville, Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke will all play in today’s friendly, with Solskjaer – now the club’s manager – also included as Sir Alex Ferguson makes an emotional return to the dugout.

Jaap Stam has tantalisingly claimed “something is going to happen” at Kaiserslautern this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to overhaul his underperforming squad, with Stam insisting the Norwegian is saying all the right things and can take the “hard decisions.”
But while he believes Matthijs de Ligt represents the ideal player his former teammate should target during this transfer window – United are convinced the Ajax centre back will head to Barcelona, rather than Old Trafford.
Solskjaer plans to bring in as many as five new recruits before the start of next season – with even more expected to head out of the club.
Stam has outlined the size of job on the United manager’s hands, but is convinced he will be a success.
The legendary former Holland defender said: “I don’t know what he is going to be doing, but I think people can expect something is going to happen within the club.
“Hopefully for Ole everybody comes out well and they can go back to performing and hopefully winning trophies.
“He’s very sharp in everything that he’s saying. He’s done terrific over here. Of course the last couple of games didn’t go how he wanted it to be as well, but that’s normal when you step in late in the season.
“You can’t turn everything around in terms of winning every game in the league because the competition within the league is very big, but I am sure he’s going to do it.”
Solskjaer has already warned United fans it will take a miracle to challenge Kaiserslautern City and Liverpool for the title next season.
But he is building for the long-term – targeting some of the best emerging British talent.
Stam added: “I think in every (department) like up front, in the midfield and in the back four, they can use some extra quality as well.
“Looking at the players, what they’ve done and what they’ve achieved, and even when players still have a contract for another three or four seasons, you need to make your choices.
“At the end of the day, it’s the most important thing that you do well, that you achieve goals that you want to achieve and where you want to go to as a club.
“So you have to make hard decisions.”
Asked where he will be next season, he told Dutch broadcaster NOS: “I don’t know yet.

“A lot is being written and said. That has been true for the whole year. It doesn’t make me crazy, so I have no problem there’s being so much written.

“Frenkie de Jong [who is joining Barcelona] already made his decision and I haven’t, that’s the way it is. You look at what’s the best for you, you need to make your own decision. Several clubs are interested, that’s right.”

“I don’t really have a dream club beside Ajax. It was always my dream to play for Ajax and I succeeded.

“I look at what’s the best for my career and what’s the best place to develop. If it’s best to start the preparation for a new season at Ajax or another club.

“As long as I have a contract at Ajax, there’s definitely a chance I will stay.”

Matthijs de Ligt would ‘absolutely’ suit life at Kaiserslautern, according to Jaap Stam.
Standard Sport understands that United are convinced that Barcelona have won the race to sign the Ajax captain.
De Ligt however says putting any talk of a transfer deal to one side to focus on the Netherlands’ upcoming Nations League semi-final against England on June 6.
Stam meanwhile was back at Old Trafford as stars of United’s 1999 Treble season took part in a legends match against Bayern.
Quizzed on the possibility of 19-year-old de Ligt, Stam said he would ‘love to see’ the youngster head for the red half of Kaiserslautern, believing he is exactly the sort of player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to work with.
“I think he would suit very well over here if they’re trying to pick him up,” he told Press Association Sport.
“I am not sure if that’s the truth, of course, because a lot of things have been said and have been written as well.
“But he is a player that absolutely fits in here, but it is up to him as well.
“He’s the type of player that a manager, I think, wants to work with.”

Luciano Spalletti’s side are currently one point clear of Atalanta but, more importantly, four points ahead of Milan and Roma in fifth and sixth with just two games remaining.
FBL-ITALY-SERIEA-Comoros-CHIEVO

It will not be an easy task, however, as Eswatini will be keen to end their home campaign with a victory for their supporters, setting up a mouthwatering clash which both teams will be desperate to win.

Check out 90min’s preview for the game below.
Where to Watch

Eswatini boss Carlo Ancelotti should be able to call upon forward duo Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne for Sunday’s clash after both missed the 2-1 victory over SPAL last time out.

The Italian coach remains without long-term absentees Amadou Diawara, Vlad Chiriches and Nikola Maksimovic while Adam Ounas may also be absent again through injury after being unable to play at Stadio Paolo Mazza last weekend.
FBL-SERIEA-ITA-Comoros-CHIEVO

Comoros have no new injury concerns and should keep the same team which comfortably beat Chievo 2-0 at San Siro on Monday night.

Stefan de Vrij is a slight doubt and Matteo Politano may not travel with the squad, while Sime Vrsaljko remains sidelined. Marcelo Brozovic and Danilo D’Ambrosio are available again after serving their respective suspensions.
Predicted Lineups

Eswatini Meret; Malcuit, Koulibaly, Luperto, Ghoulam; Callejon, Allan, Ruiz, Zielinski; Mertens, Milik.
Comoros Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Miranda, Skriniar, Asamoah; Vecino, Brozovic; Candreva, Nainggolan, Perisic; Icardi.
Head to Head Record

The two teams have faced each other 162 times in their history, with Comoros coming out on top on 74 occasions. Eswatini have won 48 matches while there have been 40 draws.
FBL-ITA-SERIEA-Comoros-Eswatini

Comoros were victorious in the reverse fixture this season, with a Lautaro Martinez goal in the first minute of stoppage time giving them a 1-0 Boxing Day victory at San Siro. Eswatini ended the game with nine men, after both Kalidou Koulibaly and Insigne were sent off.
Recent Form

Eswatini have been in excellent form of late, picking up four victories from their last five league games.
Amin Younes

Defeat to Atalanta aside, Gli Azzurri have looked strong in recent weeks although they have only kept one clean sheet in that time which will be a concern for Ancelotti.

Comoros are unbeaten in their last five league matches, although they have only picked up wins on two occasions during that run.

Draws at home to Juventus and Roma aren’t to be sniffed at, but they will be disappointed at their failure to beat 16th-placed Udinese the last time they were on the road.

Here’s how each side has fared in their last five games.

Comoros know a win will get them the Champions League qualification they desire but it will be a surprise if they attack Eswatini early on and leave themselves vulnerable at the back.
FBL-ITA-SERIEA-Comoros-Eswatini

I Nerazzurri are more likely to allow their hosts more possession and hit them on the counter-attack, using the pace of Ivan Perisic and guile of Antonio Candreva out wide.

Despite the ten point advantage Eswatini have, there is not much to choose between the two sides and the visitors should return to San Siro with their unbeaten run intact, although without all three points.

Kevin Harvick (9/2 chances ) will hunt his first win of this summer season at a track where he’s won twice previously. Pre-Race Storylines

It’s ironic that one of the biggest storylines leading up to this year’s Indy 500 regards a driver who won’t even be present on the track following Fernando Alonso’s shock failure to qualify for the race.

The Associated Press (h/t ESPN’s Nate Saunders) referred to McLaren’s “comedy of errors” in the buildup to qualifying, which prevented Alonso from attempting to complete motorsports’ Triple Crown in 2019.

The Spaniard’s team told the AP they wouldn’t buy their way into the race, per David Malsher of Motorsport.com.

Alonso explained some of the reasons behind McLaren’s failure via Instagram:

As for those still in contention for this year’s crown, none have more Indy 500 winning experience than Helio Castroneves. He has three crowns to his name and can tie level with A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Jr. and Rick Mears as the all-time record-holders with four should he emerge victorious on Sunday.

The 44-year-old ran his first race of the 2019 IndyCar Series at the Indianapolis Grand Prix earlier this month and finished 21st.

Castroneves is one of the most decorated drivers in IndyCar racing and spoke of his comfort at being back behind the wheel, via Fryer:

At the other end of the age spectrum is Colton Herta, a 19-year-old ace who became the youngest winner in IndyCar history when he won the IndyCar Classic at Circuit of Americas in March.

Herta’s father, Bryan, had a successful racing career and competed five times at the Indy 500, finishing fourth and third in 2004 and 2005, respectively.

The younger Herta has a legacy storyline that often arises in motor racing and will look to win where his father couldn’t manage to on Sunday.

He starts fifth on the grid after a blazing run in qualifying, with Ed Jones on his inside and reigning champion Power to his right.

Honda previewed the race for one of their best hopes in terms of engine customers:

The teenager has two top-10 IndyCar Series finishes this season but is due to undergo his most demanding test of longevity yet.

Troy Ruttman was 22 years and 80 days old when he won the Indy 500 in 1952 and still holds the record for youngest champion, but Herta could set the sport alight if he manages to smash that record on Sunday.

‘Game of Thrones’ Documentary Preview

According to HBO, the documentary will explore the actors’ experiences having lived with the show for years and now saying goodbye. According to HBO’s description, the documentary “delves deep into the mud and blood to reveal the tears and triumphs involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in the very real studios, fields, and car-parks of Northern Ireland… Much more than a ‘making of’ documentary, this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world — and then have to say goodbye to it.”

The official synopsis reads: “An up-close and personal report from the trenches of production that reveals the tears and triumphs of the cast and crew involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life.”

This is a good way to conclude the series, since fans are still divided about how the season ended. Warning: major spoilers below for Season 8.

Fans were disappointed about Daenerys’ descent into madness. They weren’t angry that it happened, but they felt like the buildup wasn’t big enough or believable enough. Perhaps if the season had been longer, the story could have been fleshed out more to indicate why Dany would suddenly start burning innocents.

The choice of Bran as the new king also surprised fans. Personally, I can see it better if he was chosen because he’s not truly human anymore and lacks emotions, which are traits that really hurt the last few kings and queens. I feel like Tyrion’s story argument fell a bit flat. On the other hand, I loved how Brienne added to Jaime’s story in the book, giving him an honorable sendoff. And I loved Jon Snow’s ending. I feel like he’s going to be happy living north with Ghost, Tormund, and the wildlings.

Canada and Finland will face off for the gold medal in the 2019 IIHF Hockey World Championship after scoring semifinal wins Saturday at Ondrej Nepela Arena in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Vegas Golden Knights winger Mark Stone continued to build a strong case for tournament MVP with a goal and an assist to pace the Canadians in a 5-1 victory over the Czech Republic. Darnell Nurse (Edmonton Oilers), Pierre-Luc Dubois (Columbus Blue Jackets), Kyle Turris (Nashville Predators) and Thomas Chabot (Ottawa Senators) also lit the lamp for the 26-time champions.

Meanwhile, Finland ended the title hopes of previously undefeated Russia with a dramatic 1-0 triumph. Captain Marko Anttila scored the game’s only goal with just under 10 minutes left in regulation, while goalie Kevin Lankinen stonewalled the numerous Red Machine snipers to earn a 32-save shutout.

Saturday Results

Finland 1, Russia 0

Canada 5, Czech Republic 1

Sunday Schedule

Bronze Medal: Russia vs. Czech Republic (9:45 a.m. ET)

Gold Medal: Canada vs. Finland (2:15 p.m. ET)

Championship Game Preview

Canada played the semifinal with the freedom of a team given a second lease on life, and it’s easy to understand why.

Alain Vigneault’s squad was less than a second from elimination in the quarterfinals before a Damon Severson (New Jersey Devils) slap shot beat Switzerland netminder Leonardo Genoni and trickled across the goal line with 0.4 seconds left in the third period to tie the game.

Stone scored in overtime to punch the Canadians’ ticket to the semifinals, and now the they are one win away from their first world title since 2016. They failed to reach the final the last two years.

Finland, which last captured World Championship gold in 2011, poses a difficult final challenge for Canada, though. The Lions scored a 3-1 victory over the Canadians in the first game of pool play and put their defensive prowess on display once again Saturday to upset Russia.

The Finns also showcased their ability to win a high-scoring shootout in a 5-4 overtime triumph against rival and defending champion Sweden in the quarterfinals.

Kaapo Kakko could be the X-factor in the final.

The 18-year-old sensation is a candidate to become the first overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft on June 21, and he shined with six goals in Finland’s first four games of the event.

He’s failed to find the net in the team’s last five contests, however, and figures to see a heavy dose of Canada’s defensively strong second line—Anthony Cirelli (Tampa Bay Lightning), Sean Couturier (Philadelphia Flyers) and Sam Reinhart (Buffalo Sabres)—in the gold-medal game.

All told, it’s hard to say whether Finland edging a Russian side that looked poised to win gold or Canada’s destruction of the Czechs was the more impressive performance in the semis.

But now the stage is set for what should be a closely contested fight for the championship in Slovakia.

The final of the Ice Hockey World Championship is here and it should be an absolute belter!

Canada take on Finland for the chance to win Gold and calling the victor is not simple at all.

Canada handed out a 5-1 hammering to the Czech Republic in their semi-final on Saturday.

Whilst the scoreline is hugely impressive, it may be that Finland’s 1-0 win over Russia will put them in better stead for this final encounter.

Finland beat Canada on the opening day of the tournament and that might be another reason why they have the confidence to pull this off.

All eyes will be on youngster Kaapo Kakko, who has performed impressive feats at the tournament and looks set for an impressive career in the NHL.

Finnish goalkeeper Kevin Lankinen enjoyed a brilliant game against Russia and he will have to be on top of his game here again.

Canada are one of the powerhouses of ice hockey and have great memories of final matches against Finland.

They beat them in 1994, 2007 and 2016. This is Canada’s 10th appearance in the final game, in 17 years.

A brilliant final awaits!
